Awards ceremony to take place at Avalon Hollywood in Los Angeles on Sunday, August 22, 2021

The Hollywood Critics Association (HCA) announced today that Brooklynn Prince (Apple TV+’s Home Before Dark) and Mckenna Grace (Hulu’s The Handmaid’s Tale) will be announcing the nominations for the Inaugural HCA TV Awards on the HCA’s official YouTube channel beginning at 8am PT/11am ET on Thursday, July 8, 2021.

Over the past three months, the HCA has been working closely with networks, streamers, and publicists on revamping their categories and selecting key dates for the upcoming ceremony. “The level of interest and support that we have received for this event has been incredibly humbling,” notes HCA Founder Scott Menzel. The organization received over 1,200 submissions prompting the need to reevaluate their initial category selections that were announced back in March.

“As the number of television productions continues to increase, we wanted to make sure that the categories we created were reflective of the current television landscape,” adds HCA Co-Chair Ashley Menzel. The HCA’s goal is to celebrate the very best television has to offer and we believe that means acknowledging a wide variety of stories that are being told across all platforms and networks.

“It is important to not forget television’s legacy and where it all began,” Scott Menzel continued. “As the rise of streaming services paves the way for more series and more stories, including ones with bigger budgets, we want to make sure that we continue to honor the legacy of television by commemorating broadcast and cable series as well as ones on streaming platforms. We hope our ceremony will shine a light on a number of series that would possibly be overlooked due to the limited number of spots found in traditional television categories.”
