Nine additional films have been added to the 2021 Cannes Film Festival lineup across five different sections including Where is Anne Frank?, the newest animated feature from Ari Folman (Waltz with Bashir, 2008 In Competition); The Congress, 2013 Directors Fortnight) and a surprise film by the controversial Gaspar Noé (his 10th appearance at the festival) that stars legendary horror director Dario Argento. This new film, Vortex, a documentary-style film revolving around the last days of an elderly couple. It will appear in the new Cannes Premiere section. There are no new films being added to the official In Competition slate.
For Folman’s Anne Frank film, he was given unprecedented access Anne Frank’s diary, various texts and family archives. The film follows the journey of Kitty, the imaginary friend to whom Anne dedicated her diary, who wakes up in today’s world, in Anne Frank’s house in Amsterdam, and embarks on a journey to find her in today’s Europe. It will premiere out of competition. The film will be released in France by Le Pacte and is being sold by Wild Bunch International.
Cannes 2021: Critics’ Week brings a French heavy lineup
The Opening Film of Un Certain Regard presented on Wednesday, July 7 and the film showed during the last screening of the award ceremony, on Saturday 17th of July, will be announced soon.

The 74th Cannes Film Festival opens July 6 with the world premiere of Leos Carax’s Annette with Adam Driver and Marion Cotillard, and a career award to Jodie Foster, who will receive an honorary Palme d’Or. The Closing Night film has yet to be announced.
