Cannes 2025: Lynne Ramsay’s ‘Die, My Love’ with Jennifer Lawrence and Robert Pattinson Added to Comp; Kristen Stewart’s ‘The Chronology of Water’ Lands Sidebar Premiere

Lynne Ramsay’s latest film, Die, My Love, starring Jennifer Lawrence and Robert Pattinson will be hitting the Croisette as a late entry to the official competition of the 2025 Cannes Film Festival, it was announced today. The 78th edition of the Cannes Film Festival will take place May 13-24.
The film, about a new mother (Lawrence) who struggles to maintain her sanity as she battles with psychosis and a negligent husband (Pattinson), also stars Nick Nolte, Sissy Spacek and LaKeith Stanfield. Ramsay’s last film in competition at Cannes, 2017’s You Were Never Really Here, earned her the screenplay award.
Saeed Roustaee’s Mother and Child was also added to the competition field, bringing the total up to 22 titles, including Kelly Reichardt’s The Mastermind, Jafar Panahi’s A Simple Accident, Oliver Hermanus’ The History of Sound and Julia Ducournau’s Alpha. Ramsay’s inclusion brings the total of women directors in competition to seven, a Cannes record.
Academy Award-nominated actress Kristen Stewart (Spencer) will bring her directorial debut feature to Cannes in the Un Certain Regard sidebar section of the festival. The Chronology of Water is an adaptation of the memoir of the same name by Lidia Yuknavitch from a screenplay she co-wrote with Andy Mingo. In the film, Imogen Poots plays a young woman finds her voice through the written word and her salvation as a swimmer – ultimately becoming a triumphant teacher, mother and a singular modern writer.
Among the 16 added films today include Anna Cazenave Cambet’s Love Me Tender, Simón Mesa Soto’s Un Poeta and Pedro Pinho’s O Riso E A Faca (Le Rire et le Couteau) in Un Certain Regard; Kōji Fukada’s Renai Saiban, Hlynur Pálmason’s Ástin Sem Eftir Er, Lav Diaz’s Magalhães in Cannes Premiere; and Vincent Maël Cardona’s The Sun King (Le Roi Soleil) in Midnights, which will also include Ethan Coen’s newest film Honey Don’t, with Margaret Qualley and Chris Evans.
