Pierre Lescure, President of the Festival de Cannes, and Thierry Frémaux, the Festival’s General Delegate, will announce the line-up of the 73rd edition of the Festival de Cannes live on Canal + on Wednesday 3 June at 6:00pm, as well as on the Festival’s website and across its social media.
As every year, the event will take place at the UGC Normandie in Paris. The 2020 Cannes Film Festival, its 73rd edition, was canceled last month due to the coronavirus pandemic.
For the occasion, the Festival’s General Delegate will reveal 2020’s Official Selection, the films to be awarded the Cannes stamp of approval upon their release in cinemas and screenings at certain festivals. Currently, some films to be included are Wes Anderson’s The French Dispatch, Paul Verhoeven’s Benedetta and Apichatpong Weerasethakul’s Memoria starring Tilda Swinton. Spike Lee, who was to be this year’s festival president, had his new film – Da 5 Bloods – set for an out of competition slot. It will now bypass theaters and premiere exclusively on Netflix just over a week later on June 12.
Industry professionals, meanwhile, will gather for the Marché du Film, to be held online from 22 to 26 June.
