‘CAROL’ will hit the streets of Mill Valley at their 38th fest

Although the announcement of the full schedule for the 38th Mill Valley Film Festival won’t be revealed until mid-September, more early confirmations on the upcoming slate are here, after the recent reveal of the Local Filmmakers and Documentaries lineup.

Todd Haynes’s Cannes-winning Carol will screen, following its appearances at New York and ahead of its showing at the Chicago International Film Festival.

Other confirmed films at MVFF38 include:

Award-winning Italian director Nanni Moretti’s My Mother (Mia Madre) tells the story of Margherita, a director who is shooting a film with a famous American actor, Barry Huggins (played by John Tuturro), who is quite a headache on set. Away from the shoot, Margherita tries to hold her life together, despite her mother’s illness and her daughter’s adolescence.

From Deniz Gamze Erguven comes MustangIn a village in northern Turkey, Lale and her four sisters are walking home from school, playing innocently with some boys. The immorality of their play sets off a scandal that has unexpected consequences. The family home is progressively transformed into a prison; instruction in homemaking replaces school and marriages start being arranged. The five sisters who share a common passion for freedom, find ways of getting around the constraints imposed on them.

Mika Kaurismaki’s The Girl King paints a portrait of the brilliant, extravagant Kristina of Sweden, queen from age six, who fights the conservative forces that are against her ideas to modernize Sweden and who have no tolerance for her awakening sexuality.

The 38th Mill Valley Film Festival runs from October 8-18, 2015.
