CBS Films has picked up the U.S. distribution rights to At Eternity’s Gate, the Julian Schnabel-directed Vincent Van Gogh biopic starring Willem Dafoe.
The film explores Van Gogh’s short but explosive painting career as well as his spiral into depression that end in the celebrated artist taking his own life. The film also stars Oscar Isaac, Mads Mikkelsen (earning raves for his film Arctic at Cannes) and Rupert Friend.
The script was written by Schnabel, an artist himself, and Jean-Claude Carrière. Schnabel was nominated for a Best Director Oscar for 2007’s The Diving Bell and the Butterfly. Dafoe is a three-time Oscar nominee including just this year for The Florida Project.
Recent CBS Films releases have included the Best Picture Oscar-nominated Hell or High Water, Patriots Day and Inside Llewyn Davis.
No release date has been set yet but I have Dafoe in my top 5 for Best Actor just in case.
