Emmanuel Mouret’s Les Choses Qu’On Dit, Les Choses Qu’On Fait aka Love Affair(s), about a pregnant woman and her boyfriend’s cousin, led the nominations for 2021 César Awards, announced on Wednesday morning with 13 mentions. It was followed closely by François Ozon’s gay teen romance Eté 85 (Summer of 85) and Albert Dupontel’s Adieu Les Cons (Bye Bye Morons), about a seriously ill woman tries to find her long-lost child, which each earned 12.

France’s Oscar shortlisted Two of Us from Filippo Meneghetti earned four nominations: Best Actress nods for both of its leads, Martine Chevallier and Barbara Sukowa, as well as Best Original Screenplay and Best Debut Feature.

Nominees in the Foreign Film category were Sam Mendes’ 1917, Todd Haynes’ Dark Waters, Thomas Vinterberg’s Another Round (Oscar shortlisted on Tuesday for Denmark), Jan Komasa’s La Communion and Jonas Trueba’s Eva In August.

The 2021 César Awards are currently scheduled to take place on March 12 at Paris’ Olympia theater but no details about what type of ceremony – in-person, virtual or a hybrid – were yet available.
