Cinema Audio Society (CAS) Nominations: ‘Deadpool & Wolverine,’ ‘A Complete Unknown,’ ‘Gladiator II’ and More

The Cinema Audio Society (CAS) has revealed the nominations for its 61st CAS Awards, celebrating the best in sound mixing.

The nominees in the category for Live-Action Theatrical Feature are the sound teams behind A Complete Unknown, Deadpool & Wolverine, Dune: Part Two, Gladiator II and Wicked. For Animated Feature, the society nominated the teams behind Inside Out 2, Moana 2, Mufasa: The Lion King, The Wild Robot and Wallace & Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowl.

All five nominees in the live-action feature category, as well as animated feature nominee The Wild Robot, are shortlisted for the Oscar in sound. The shortlist also includes Alien: Romulus, Blitz, Emilia Pérez and Joker: Folie à Deux. The Motion Picture Sound Editors (MPSE) recently nominated A Complete Unknown, Deadpool & Wolverine, Dune: Part Two, and Wicked, as well as Inside Out 2, Mufasa: The Lion King and The Wild Robot.

The CAS Awards will be handed out February 22 at the Beverly Hilton, where production sound mixer Tod A. Maitland, who is set to accept the CAS Career Achievement Award, is also nominated for A Complete Unknown and Fallout. Dune: Part Two director Denis Villeneuve will receive the Cinema Audio Society’s Filmmaker Award.

In television, nominees included Baby Reindeer, Masters of Air and Ripley.

“2024 was a year of remarkable achievements in the sound community, with exceptional talent on display across every category,” said CAS president Peter Kurland. “The innovation and artistry of these sound mixers continue to elevate the craft, and the upcoming awards will be a celebration of the outstanding contributions made this year.”
