The American Society of Cinematographers has announced the nominations for the 33rd ASC Outstanding Achievement Awards today and for the first time ever the Theatrical nominees contain two black & white foreign language films.

They are Cold War and ROMA, of course. Cold War was lensed by Łukasz Żal, who won the ASC Spotlight Award for 2013’s Ida and went to earn an Oscar nomination for the film. For ROMA, Alfonso Cuarón is a first time nominee with the ASC, having shot the film himself instead of using his regular cinematographer Emmanuel Lubezki, who was unavailable.

The Favourite, First Man and A Star Is Born round out the Theatrical nominees. Some surprise snubs include If Beale Street Could Talk and Black Panther.

On the Television side, the ASC went for The Man in the High Castle, Gotham, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel and two for The Handmaid’s Tale.
