Critics Choice/Golden Globe/Screen Actors Guild/BAFTA: Who’s Got Them All

Here we are again; looking at the list of which performers have hit all four major precursors: Critics’ Choice, The Golden Globes, Screen Actors Guild (SAG) and British Academy Film Awards (BAFTA).

With the exception of last year, it usually happens – an actor grabs all of the pieces of the puzzle that it takes to get an Oscar nomination and then something goes wrong at the last minute. Weird timing, screener issues, late-breaking contenders that usurp attention, buzz and, most importantly, votes. Two years ago we saw Jake Gyllenhaal hit everything for Nightcrawler only to be stopped at the door on Oscar nomination morning by Bradley Cooper in the box office behemoth American Sniper. In years before that, Oscar-winners like Tom Hanks, Emma Thompson, Marion Cotillard and Tilda Swinton ran the gamut only to be denied at Oscar.

This year there are 13 performances that have hit them all. Some are also already winners with the Critics’ Choice and the Golden Globes. But will they all make it in next week? Looking at the list it’s hard to think not but last year’s all-in was the exception in recent years so don’t be terribly surprised if one of these names misses on January 24th.
