Cynthia Erivo is rebel and hero Harriet Tubman in first ‘Harriet’ trailer

The same day the film was announced to world premiere at the 44th Toronto International Film Festival, Focus Features has released the first trailer for Harriet, starring Emmy, Grammy and Tony winner Cynthia Erivo as the legendary abolitionist Harriet Tubman.

Based on the thrilling and inspirational life of an iconic American freedom fighter, Harriet tells the extraordinary tale of Harriet Tubman’s escape from slavery and transformation into one of America’s greatest heroes. Her courage, ingenuity, and tenacity freed hundreds of slaves and changed the course of history.

Harriet is directed by Kasi Lemmons (Eve’s Bayou) and co-written by Lemmons and Gregory Allen Howard. It is produced by Debra Martin Chase, Gregory Allen Howard and Daniela Taplin Lundberg, co-produced by Charles Pugliese and executive produced by Nnamdi Asomugha, Bill Benenson, Shea Kammer, Kristina Kendall, Charles D. King and Elizabeth Koch.

It co-stars Tony and Grammy Award winner Leslie Odom, Jr., Janelle Monáe, Clarke Peters, Vanessa Bell Calloway and Joe Alwyn. Focus Features will release Harriet on November 1st.
