The Dallas-Fort Worth Film Critics Association (DFWFCA) voted the war epic 1917 as the best film of 2019, according to the results of its 26th annual critics’ poll released today.
The WWI epic also received wins in Best Director for Sam Mendes, Best Cinematography for Roger Deakins and Best Musical Score for Thomas Newman.
Marriage Story led the wins with four: Best Actor (Adam Driver), Best Actress (Scarlett Johansson), Best Supporting Actress (Laura Dern) and Best Screenplay (Noah Baumbach) and was the group’s #2 film of the year.
Once Upon a Time in Hollywood and Parasite, which also ranked in the top 5, found individual love in Supporting Actor for Brad Pitt and Foreign Language Film for the South Korean masterpiece.
Said DFWFCA president Todd Jorgenson, “In a year noteworthy for such distinct artistic visions at the movies, our members settled on one of the most ambitious as their favorite. While the visually stunning 1917 was the top choice, several others stood out for their acting, writing, and technical achievements. I’m pleased that our winners and runners-up represent such a diverse collection of great films from the past year.”
