‘Dawn of the Planet of the Apes’ Leads Visual Effects Society Noms with 5, Game of Thrones Leads TV

The Visual Effects Society has announced their nominations for Film, Television and Other Media today and Dawn of the Planet of the Apes leads with five, including the top award of Outstanding Visual Effects in a Visual Effects-Driven Photoreal/Live Action Feature Motion Picture. Not far behind, The Hobbit and Interstellar come in with four each. X-Men and Edge of Tomorrow have three apiece. Of the 10 films eligible for the Visual Effects Oscar, six of them showed up today in the main category. Transformers: Age of Extinction and Captain America: The Winter Soldier managed a few nominations but Godzilla and Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb were snubbed here entirely.

Since the first VES Awards were handed out in 2002, the winner of the top category has gone on to win the visual effects Oscar nine of the past 12 times.

Game of Thrones leads the field in television with five nominations including the top TV category, Outstanding Visual Effects in a Visual Effects-Driven Photoreal/Live Action Broadcast Program.
