The Art Directors Guild’s (ADG, IATSE Local 800) 26th Annual Excellence in Production Design Awards in theatrical motion pictures, television, commercials, music videos and animation features were held tonight at the InterContinental Los Angeles Downtown and hosted by Emmy-nominated actress Yvette Nicole Brown where Dune, Nightmare Alley and No Time to Die were among this year’s winners.

Patrice Vermette was the winner for Dune in the Best Fantasy Feature Film. He was not at the ceremony to receive the prize, but his director Denis Villeneuve accepted it on his behalf. The reason for Vermette’s absence was best described by Villeneuve as “He’s already working on Dune: Part 2.” Over in Best Period Feature Film, Tamara Deverell took home the award for her work on Nightmare Alley. Based on our latest Oscar predictions for Best Production Design, these two films are the ones to beat when it comes to the ceremony in a couple of weeks. In the other Feature Film categories, in Best Contemporary Feature Film, Mark Tildesley landed the win for No Time to Die, while over in Best Animated Feature Film, Ian Gooding and Lorelay Bové won for Encanto. Since 2011, the ADG winner, in any of the four categories for Feature Film, has gone on to win the Oscar, which bodes well for Dune or Nightmare Alley’s chances of beating The Power of the Dog, The Tragedy of Macbeth and West Side Story for the gold

On the television side of things, Chae Kyoung-sun won Best One Hour Contemporary Single-Camera Series for Squid Game, while Best Half Hour Single-Camera Series went to Kate Brunch’s work on FX’s What We Do in the Shadows. Marvel and Disney+ had a nice night, winning two awards for Best Television Movie or Limited Series for WandaVision and Best One Hour Period or Fantasy Single-Camera Series for Loki.

Honorary awards went to director Denis Villeneuve (Dune), who received the William Cameron Menzies Award, and Academy Award-winning filmmaker Jane Campion (The Power of the Dog) received the Cinematic Imagery Award. Hall of Fame honorees this year were William A. Horning and Polly Platt. Production Designer Ida Random (AD), Scenic Artists Michael and Denise Okuda (SDMM), Set Designer/Art Director Ann Harris (STG) and Concept Illustrator and Storyboard Artist Donna Cline (IMA) were presented with Lifetime Achievement Awards for their outstanding legacies and contributions to their crafts.

The ADG Awards ceremony returned to a live-in person ceremony at the InterContinental Hotel Los Angeles Downtown Hotel and was produced by Michael Allen Glover, ADG (The Alienist, Solos and Station Eleven).

Here is the complete list of winners.
