Eddie Redmayne and Felicity Jones go for gold in Focus Features’ The Theory of Everything trailer

The trailer for the Oscar hopeful biopic of Stephen Hawking, directed by James Marsh ( the Oscar-winning Man on Wire) debuts with a gauzy, fairy tale look and sweeping score. Focus Features, which gave us the multi-Oscar winning Dallas Buyers Club last year, looks to mine more gold in the biopic genre with the life of a brilliant mind shattered by physical impairment. On the surface it’s pure Oscar fodder; a bit of A Beautiful Mind here, a bit of Hyde Park on Hudson there. But which will it be, the former or the latter? Eddie Redmayne (Les Misérables) strikes a strong resemblance to Hawking and Felicity Jones (Like Crazy) seems serviceable as his stand aside wife but is it enough? The film was recently announced as part of the Special Presentations category at the Toronto Film Festival next month and will be released in the U.S. on November 7th.
