Emmys: The Oscars, The Tonys, SNL, RuPaul’s Drag Race Highlight our Variety, Reality-Competition Winner Predictions

Emmy Expert Jonathan Boehle and I have already revealed our prediction in the Variety and Reality categories in Emmy Podcast #20 but now you can see where the rest of the experts stand in the tight races. Reality-Competition and Reality Host are especially close with first time nominee RuPaul’s Drag Race challenging 10-time winner The Amazing Race and three-time winner (and reigning champ) The Voice. Alternately, RuPaul Charles is going for his second win in a row as host of his show against Emmy magnet Alec Baldwin, who is up for his first season of the primetime reboot of Match Game.

LISTEN: Emmy Podcast #20: Variety, Reality-Competition Winner Predictions

Saturday Night Live seems poised to take Variety Sketch Series pretty easily this year but Variety Talk Series looks like a fight between former Daily Show correspondents John Oliver (winner here last year) and Stephen Colbert (a previous winner, but not for this show). But wait, can Samantha Bee break the glass ceiling and beat them both?

Special Class Program, with strangely only four nominees this year, looks like a fight between the 70th Annual Tony Awards (aka the Hamilton Tonys) and this year’s Oscars, notorious for the La La Land/Moonlight Best Picture snafu. Could the gaffe result in a big win here?

Three of these categories, Reality Host, Variety Special and Special Class Program will be presented at the Creative Arts Emmys, the weekend of September 9th and 10th. Reality Competition Series, Variety Sketch and Variety Talk Series will be presented at the Primetime Emmys on September 17th.

Here are the predictions from the AwardsWatch Emmy Experts in those six categories.
