The second trailer for 20th Century Fox’s The Revenant is here and it’s a doozy. While the first was a wordless tome of eerie confusion this new look is a fleshed out tale of revenge and violence. Visually the film looks to be the most ambitious for director Alejandro G. Iñárritu. Its scope and feel is epic and grand, like an ultra-violent John Ford western.
The addition of a son for DiCaprio’s character in the film (not true in real life) is going to be a very important emotional hook for viewers…and Oscar voters.
From 20th Century Fox:
[box type=”shadow” align=”aligncenter” class=”” width=””]Inspired by true events, THE REVENANT is an immersive and visceral cinematic experience capturing one man’s epic adventure of survival and the extraordinary power of the human spirit. In an expedition of the uncharted American wilderness, legendary explorer Hugh Glass (Leonardo DiCaprio) is brutally attacked by a bear and left for dead by members of his own hunting team. In a quest to survive, Glass endures unimaginable grief as well as the betrayal of his confidant John Fitzgerald (Tom Hardy). Guided by sheer will and the love of his family, Glass must navigate a vicious winter in a relentless pursuit to live and find redemption. THE REVENANT is directed and co-written by renowned filmmaker, Academy Award® winner Alejandro G. Iñárritu (Birdman, Babel).[/box]
Domhnall Gleeson and Will Poulter co-star in the film, which was co-written by Mark L. Smith (and based on the novel by Michael Punke) and will be in limited release by 20th Century Fox this Christmas and go wide January 8th.
