With all four major precursors in hand and more than two dozens critics prizes, Alfonso Cuarón (Roma) should easily walk away with his second Best Director Oscar on Sunday, among other wins.

In doing so, he’ll become the first director of an entirely non-English language film to do so. While there is a chance for a Spike Lee spoiler for BlacKkKlansman I have to imagine he would have picked up at least one of these four along the way to give a kernel, something to point to. It would be a huge shock if it happened but the room would jump to its feet if it does.

1. Alfonso Cuarón – ROMA (BAFTA, BFCA, DGA, GG)
2. Spike Lee – BLACKkKLANSMAN
3. Yorgos Lanthimos – THE FAVOURITE
4. Adam McKay – VICE
5. Pawel Pawlikowski – COLD WAR
BAFTA – British Film Academy Awards
BFCA – Broadcast Film Critics Association (Critics Choice)
DGA – Directors Guild of America
GG – Golden Globe
