A tough race with two frontrunners that are, arguably, two of the – let’s just say – most edited films of the year.
Vice and Bohemian Rhapsody share precursors with the former winning BAFTA and the latter winning ACE. The caveat is that they didn’t compete against each other at ACE – BR won Drama and The Favourite won Comedy.
That’s going to put Bohemian Rhapsody ahead for me, as well as the fact that the film is clearly loved and editor John Ottman has been able to ride a pre-written narrative that he was somehow able to ‘save’ the film after the firing of his longtime collaborator, director Bryan Singer.
