This will be between Avengers: Infinity War, which won the Visual Effects Society’s top prize and First Man, which took the group’s supporting visual effects win – it’s definitely a contender and the only film with other nominations.
Both BAFTA and Critics’ Choice went for Black Panther, which did not earn a nomination here despite landing a Best Picture nod.
I’m giving the edge to Avengers: Infinity War, which would make it the first Marvel film to win for Visual Effects. It would also end the losing streak for Dan Sudick who is on his 9th Oscar nomination.
