Final 2020 Oscar Predictions – MAKEUP and HAIRSTYLING

One of Oscar night’s most locked categories, Bombshell is the overwhelming favorite here, having won all three MUAHs (the Make Up and Hairstylist guild) it was nominated for, the Critics Choice and BAFTA. Anything else here would be a huge upset and the only possible outside shot would be 1917 as part of a massive sweep but two things to think about: this was one of only two categories 1917 lost at the BAFTAs this weekend and even Titanic lost here (to Men in Black), stopping it from becoming the biggest Oscar winner of all time. The one weird stat that pops out here is that every Period makeup winner from MUAH ended up being the Oscar winner. This year, that’s Joker. Makes it hard to not give it spoiler status.

But can we celebrate that this category FINALLY expanded to five nominees?

Check out the chart below for the decade of winners in the guilds and awards bodies for makeup and hair.

Here are my ranked Final Oscar predictions for Makeup and Hairstyling.

1. Bombshell (Lionsgate)BAFTA, CCA, MUAH (x3)
2. Joker (Warner Bros)BAFTA, CCA, MUAH
3. 1917 (Universal)BAFTA
4. Judy (Roadside Attractions)BAFTA, CCA
5. Maleficent: Mistress of Evil (Disney)MUAH
