FINAL 2024 Oscar Predictions: FILM EDITING

It’s a clean sweep for Jennifer Lame’s cutting of Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer, winning the ACE Eddie, BAFTA and Critics Choice for film editing.

That said, the American Cinema Editors (ACE) award has been a little bit shaky in recent years. While Everything Everywhere All At Once won the comedy ACE then the Oscar, comedies rarely triumph here a the Oscars and the ACE drama winners have been spotty at best; the last four there did not turn those wins into Oscar wins – Top Gun: Maverick, King Richard, The Trial of the Chicago 7 and Parasite. But there doesn’t feel like a close second here or a real competitor. The Holdovers won the comedy ACE and is Oscar-nominated but that’s not happening.

Here are my ranked final 2024 Oscar predictions for Film Editing.

1. Oppenheimer (ACE, BAFTA, CCA)
Jennifer Lame
2. Anatomy of a Fall (ACE, BAFTA)
Laurent Sénéchal
3. The Holdovers (ACE)
Kevin Tent
4. Killers of the Flower Moon (ACE, BAFTA, CCA)
Thelma Schoonmaker
5. Poor Things (ACE, BAFTA, CCA)
Yorgos Mavropsaridis
Erik Anderson

Erik Anderson is the founder/owner and Editor-in-Chief of AwardsWatch and has always loved all things Oscar, having watched the Academy Awards since he was in single digits; making lists, rankings and predictions throughout the show. This led him down the path to obsessing about awards. Much later, he found himself in film school and the film forums of GoldDerby, and then migrated over to the former Oscarwatch (now AwardsDaily), before breaking off to create AwardsWatch in 2013. He is a Rotten Tomatoes-approved critic, accredited by the Cannes Film Festival, Telluride Film Festival, Toronto International Film Festival and more, is a member of the International Cinephile Society (ICS), The Society of LGBTQ Entertainment Critics (GALECA), Hollywood Critics Association (HCA) and the International Press Academy. Among his many achieved goals with AwardsWatch, he has given a platform to underrepresented writers and critics and supplied them with access to film festivals and the industry and calls the Bay Area his home where he lives with his husband and son.
