Netflix has revealed the first trailer and look at Ryan Murphy’s new Netflix venture, Ratched, detailing the early years the legendary Nurse Mildred Ratched, young nurse at a mental institution becomes jaded, bitter and a downright monster to her patients, and starring Emmy winner Sarah Paulson in the title role.

In 1947, Mildred arrives in Northern California to seek employment at a leading psychiatric hospital where new and unsettling experiments have begun on the human mind. On a clandestine mission, Mildred presents herself as the perfect image of what a dedicated nurse should be, but the wheels are always turning and as she begins to infiltrate the mental health care system and those within it, Mildred’s stylish exterior belies a growing darkness that has long been smoldering within, revealing that true monsters are made, not born.
Nurse Ratched was originated in the Ken Kesey book One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, which was later adapted into a play by Dale Wasserman and then an Oscar-winning film directed by Milos Forman and starring Louise Fletcher, who won the Academy Award for Best Actress.
The series also stars Emmy and Academy Award nominee Judy Davis, Emmy winner Cynthia Nixon, Emmy and Academy Award nominee Sharon Stone, Emmy nominee Finn Wittrock, Academy Award nominee Sophie Okonedo, Rosanna Arquette, Harriet Sansome Harris, Vincent D’Onofrio, Amanda Plummer, Hunter Parrish, Corey Stoll, Liz Femi, Brandon Flynn and Charlie Carver.
The limited series is created by Ryan Murphy and Evan Romanski and will be directed by Michael Uppendahl, Nelson Cragg, Daniel Minahan, Ryan Murphy, Jennifer Lynch and Jessica Yu. It is written by Evan Romansky, Ian Brennan, Jennifer Salt and Ryan Murphy. The 8 episode series Ratched premieres exclusively on Netflix on Friday, September 18.
