[box type=”shadow”]Welcome to AwardsWatch, a site dedicated to predicting entertainment’s biggest awards: the Oscars, the Emmys, and the Grammys. “What, another awards prognostication site?“, we hear you say. But wait, there is a twist: we are, as far as we know, the first site that does community based prognostication. What we have noticed is that other prognosticators often let their personal taste influence their predictions, leading them to overestimate their favorites and underestimate those favorites’ biggest competitors. Our predictions will be based on what the community in our forums (see that link above in the menu?) predicts as a whole. So when a single individual among us may still fall into the trap of championing the films he or she loves, the community will course-correct them and diminish their outliers. That way we try to come to the most accurate predictions on the web.
A lot of the people behind AwardsWatch have been at this game for over ten years, and have a keen eye for what is important and what not in the race to Oscar, Emmy, and Grammy. Started out as the forums hosted by Sasha Stone’s AwardsDaily (formerly OscarWatch), after that site and the forums split earlier this year, the idea quickly grew to create a more easily digestible and coordinated outlet for our efforts, culminating in the unveiling of the site you are reading right now.
Predictions will obviously be an important part of this site, and a lot of content will be dedicated to that. We will regularly report on the continuous prediction polls on our forums, and provide insight in the reasoning behind our shifting perspectives. Set aside from these, we will also have up-to-date predictions from our Gold Rush Gang, the ten best community prognosticators in our annual Gold Rush, a competition in which people try to predict the Oscars and its most important critics and industry precursors. They will predict the Big Eight categories, and you will find their predictions under the Predictions menu above.
We will also bring you the news that can have an influence on the race, including who won precursors and who didn’t. Find an overview of those winners under the Awards menu. Listen to our regular podcasts, hosted by the man with the suave voice, Erik Anderson. Read our reviews of film, music, and television, giving individual members of our community a voice. And come visit our forums, we’re a fun bunch that always enjoys new members.[/box]
