From ‘Wonder Woman’ to ‘Batman,’ every trailer and project from DC Fandome

Packed convention halls were not on tap for DC Fandome this weekend but it didn’t stop the first ever all virtual con from giving comic book and superhero fans a feast for the eyes including a new trailer for Wonder Woman 1984, the first trailer for The Batman with Robert Pattinson in the titular role, the long-asked for and finally gotten ‘The Snyder Cut’ of Justice League and more first looks like Dwayne Johnson as Black Adam, the new The Suicide Squad and much more, enough fit for a Super Bowl. After a decade-long dominance by Marvel, DC Comics looks to be the overwhelming choice for 2021 big budget superhero stories.

Here is the full list of trailers and announcements to come out of DC Fandome this weekend.

WONDER WOMAN 1984

The second trailer to come for the Wonder Woman sequel but this time we get our first look at Kristen Wiig gnashing her teeth as Cheetah in full form, well, CGI form at least. The film is set for an October 2020 release after multiple date changes due to the coronavirus closing theaters.

THE BATMAN

Probably the most anticipated trailer of the weekend, and rightfully so. The Batman keeps the motifs of darkness and griminess but Matt Reeves and Robert Pattinson have imbued the Caped Crusader with a more Seven-style detective nature and a completely unrecognizable Colin Farrell as Oswald Cobblepot aka Penguin. The Batman lands October 2021.

ZACK SNYDER’S JUSTICE LEAGUE

In one of the stranger Twitter championings over the years, the #ReleaseTheSnyderCut hashtag from Justice League enthusiasts and apologists kind of forced the hand of Warner Bros to fork over tens of millions of dollars to juice up the critically derided film, which will now be a four-hour miniseries debuting on HBO Max in 2021 in four, one-hour parts.

THE SUICIDE SQUAD

We got both a full roll call of character for The Suicide Squad and an action-packed behind the scenes look at the film that features returning squad members including Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, Viola Davis as Amanda Waller, Joel Kinnaman as Rick Flag, and Jai Courtney as Captain Boomerang. Joining this new adventure are Idris Elba as Bloodsport, Pete Davidson as Blackguard, Alice Braga as Sul Soria, John Cena as Peacemaker, Mayling Ng as Mongal and many more. The film is set for an August 6, 2021 release.

BLACK ADAM

Dwayne Johnson joins the DC Universe as Black Adam in this completely animated preview. An anti-hero in this film directed by Jaume Collet-Serra. The DC FanDome panel presented concept art of what fans can expect from the Shazam spin-off, including Black Adam’s costume. Black Adam is scheduled to open December 22, 2021.

SUICIDE SQUAD: KILL THE JUSTICE LEAGUE (video game)

The teaser trailer for the first Suicide Squad video game from Rocksteady featuring Harley Quinn, Captain Boomerang, Deadshot and King Shark.

GOTHAM KNIGHTS (video game)

The new video game from the developers of Batman: Arkham Origins featuring Bat-themed suits of Robin, Batgirl, Nightwing and Red Hood. In the game, Batman is dead and the rest must protect Gotham City from villains like Mr. Freeze and the Court of Owls.

SHAZAM: FURY OF THE GODS

The Shazam sequel received an official title – Shazam: Fury of the Gods. In the panel’s “Shazoom” video call, comedian Sinbad made a brief cameo, but it’s unclear if that meant he’ll be appearing in the film (my bet says yes). Shazam: Fury of the Gods has a long way to go before hitting theaters, November 4, 2022.

THE FLASH

Ezra Miller’s solo Flash movie (he first appeared in Justice League) is still being kept under wraps, but he is getting a new costume courtesy of Bruce Wayne. Director Andy Muschietti (IT) and writer Christina Hodson mentioned the time-traveling aspects of the movie, which led many to believe it will explore the DC universe’s multiverse. Expect The Flash June 3, 2022.

STATIC SHOCK

One of the bigger surprise announcements was that of the electric teen superhero Static Shock will jump off the comic book pages to possibly make his big screen debut. Filmmaker Reginald Hudlin (House Party) revealed during a panel that there are serious discussions to give the film a theatrical feature release. Static Shock will also return to comics in a new digital series next year.
