Gay and Lesbian Entertainment Critics Association Nominations

 

GALECA, the Gay and Lesbian Entertainment Critics Association (of which yours truly is a voting member) revealed their nominations for film and television today. While the group has a focus on gay and lesbian film and television the Film of the Year nominees rank from Oscar fare like David O. Russell’s American Hustle to Xavier Dolan’s trans masterpiece Laurence Anyways. The Dorian Awards (as they are dubbed) also have fun and eccentric categories like Campy Flick of the Year (of which August: Osage County is appropriately nominated for) and Wilde Wit of the Year. Rounding out the film list is Blue is the Warmest Color, Dallas Buyers Club, Her, Gravity and 12 Years a Slave.

Lily Tomlin has been chosen to receive the group’s Timeless Star tribute, given to “an actor or performer whose exemplary career is marked by character, wisdom and wit.”

On the TV side the nominees for Best Drama (no separation between series, miniseries or TV movie) are: American Horror Story: Coven, Behind the Candelabra, Breaking Bad, Mad Men and Orange is the New Black.

The group, which consists of 80 entertainment journalists in the U.S. and Europe, unveiled nominations for its annual Dorian Awards on Tuesday. Winners will be announced Jan. 21, and GALECA’s annual toast will be held March 9 at a location to be determined in Hollywood.
