Golden Globe Nominations (Motion Picture): ‘One Battle After Another,’ ‘Sentimental Value’ Lead

The nominations for the 83rd Golden Globe Awards have been announced and One Battle After Another leads the motion picture categories with nine mentions, including Best Motion Picture — Drama, Best Director and Screenplay for Paul Thomas Anderson and five acting nominations.
It was followed by Sentimental Value with eight, earning director and screenplay nominations for Joachim Trier and four acting nods, including Renate Reinsve and Inga Ibsdotter Lilleaas. Next up was Sinners with seven, Hamnet with six, and Frankenstein and Wicked: For Good with five. All received Best Motion Picture nominations except Wicked: For Good, which did manage two acting and two song mentions. Sinners and Wicked: For Good‘s totals were lifted by the Globes’ Cinematic and Box Office Achievement category, instituted three years ago.
In Motion Picture — Drama, the nominees are Frankenstein, Hamnet, It Was Just an Accident, The Secret Agent, Sentimental Value and Sinners. This marks the first time three non-English language films are nominated in the top drama category. It Was Just an Accident, The Secret Agent and Sentimental Value are also nominated for Best Motion Picture — Non-English Language.
For Best Motion Picture — Musical or Comedy we have Blue Moon, Bugonia, Marty Supreme, No Other Choice, Nouvelle Vague and One Battle After Another. The double Richard Linklater films (Blue Moon and Nouvelle Vague) shockingly knocked out Wicked: For Good from the category as well as more widely predicted titles like Wake Up Dead Man, the newest Knives Out film.
In the acting categories, a few surprises came in with Eva Victor’s nod in Drama Actress for Sorry, Baby as well as Emily Blunt for Supporting Actress in The Smashing Machine. Tessa Thompson (Hedda), Jennifer Lawrence (Die My Love), Amanda Seyfried (The Testament of Ann Lee), Kate Hudson (Song Sung Blue), Rose Byrne (If I Had Legs I’d Kick You) and Julia Roberts (After the Hunt) were all the sole nominees for their films in lead actress categories, while Amy Madigan (Weapons) and Jeremy Allen White (Springsteen: Deliver Me From Nowhere) were in their respective categories.
With her nomination this morning, Cynthia Erivo (Wicked: For Good) becomes the first Black woman nominated twice in the lead actress (comedy or musical) category. Another bit of history, Wagner Moura (The Secret Agent) is the first Brazilian actor nominated for a lead Golden Globe. This follows his recent NYFCC win where he became the first actor from a Latin, Central or South American country to win their top acting prize.
Helen Mirren will be the 70th recipient of the Golden Globes’ Cecil B. DeMille Award, in recognition for her decades of work on screen and in television. Mirren has been nominated for 17 Golden Globes, winning three times, first as Best Actress in a Miniseries or TV Movie for Losing Chase (1995) and then becoming a double winner for her work in 2005, in the film The Queen and as Best Actress in a Miniseries/TV Movie for Elizabeth I. A new primetime special, Golden Eve, will debut on CBS Thursday, January 8, 2026 where Mirren will be presented with the Cecil B. DeMille Award.
Winners will be announced Sunday, January 11 on CBS and Paramount+ during a ceremony hosted for a second year by Nikki Glaser.
