Not to be outdone by the motion picture nominations, the television contenders for the 79th Golden Globe Awards were also announced where the third season of Succession, which just wrapped up last night, led with five nods: Best Television Series – Drama and four acting nominations.

Next was The Morning Show and Ted Lasso with four apiece and several with three including Pose, Hacks, Dopesick and the breakout show of 2021, Squid Game. The Korean dramatic thriller earned a drama series nod and two acting mentions, for Lee Jung-jae in lead and O Yeong-su in supporting. It is the first for the HFPA to honor a non-English language show in this way and a part of some of the changes the group set forth to implement in terms of eligibility.

More top contenders include Lupin, Hacks, Only Murders in the Building and WandaVision. Mare of Easttown is nominated for limited series and Emmy winner Kate Winslet in lead actress but missing from the supporting actor list was Emmy winner Evan Peters.

Here is the complete list of television nominees. The HFPA still plans on a Golden Globes ceremony January 9, 2022 (the same day as Critics’ Choice and their televised show) but gave no details as to what, where or how the show would look like.
