‘Green Book,’ ‘A Star Is Born’ top National Board of Review (NBR) winners

Green Book has won the National Board of Review (NBR) prize for Best Film of 2018, also scooping up the Best Actor prize for Viggo Mortensen.  The organization is made up of film enthusiasts, industry professionals, academics, and filmmakers. 

A Star Is Born was the field best winner today with three: Best Director for Bradley Cooper, Best Actress for Lady Gaga and Best Supporting Actor for Sam Elliott. The film was also named one of the top 10 films of the year.

Other multiple winners included If Beale Street Could Talk which received wins for Adapted Screenplay and Supporting Actress (Regina King) First Reformed and Eighth Grade. 

The Gotham Best Feature winner The Rider showed up today on the NBR’s list of Top 10 Independent Films.

With the Gotham Awards last night, the NBR is the next part in the official kickoff of the 2018-2019 awards season. The New York Film Critics Circle announces on Thursday.

Last year, the NBR were the first to jump on The Post, giving that film its top prize as well as Best Actor and Best Actress for Tom Hanks and Meryl Streep, respectively. In the end, the film earned a Best Picture Oscar nomination and Streep grabbed her 21st career nomination. 

The National Board of Review gala will be held on January 8, 2019 in New York City.
