Hulu and FX Networks Sets March 2020 Launch of FX on HULU

FX will now have a new official streaming home for its award-winning library of current and legacy series along with new series with the launch of FX on Hulu debuting in March of 2020, it was announced today by Randy Freer, Chief Executive Officer, Hulu and John Landgraf, Chairman, FX Networks and FX Productions. 

FX on Hulu will feature every season of more than 40 FX original series spanning the past 17 years.

New seasons of most current and all-new FX and FXX original series that run or launch on the FX linear channels will premiere immediately following on FX on Hulu.

Additionally, FX will produce original content exclusively for FX on Hulu beginning with four original seriesslated for 2020 including the limited series Devs and Mrs. America (spring), the limited series A Teacher (summer) and the drama series The Old Man (fall).  

In March, FX on Hulu will debut with Alex Garland’s (Ex MachinaAnnihilation) first-ever television series Devs, exclusively for FX on Hulu.  Also that week, featured premieres of the new comedies Dave (FXX) and Breeders (FX), season four of the award-winning comedy Better Things (FX), and an all-new season of the comedy showcase Cake (FXX) will roll out first on their respective FX linear channel, then follow immediately on FX on Hulu.

FX’s premium content further expands Hulu’s on-demand offering of current shows from every major U.S. broadcast network; libraries of hit TV series and films; and acclaimed Hulu Originals like Emmy® and Golden Globe® Award-winning series The Handmaid’s Tale and The Act, Emmy Award-nominated series including Castle Rock, The Looming TowerCatch-22, and Pen15, alongside hit series Marvel’s RunawaysRamy, Shrill, and Oscar® and Emmy Award-nominated documentary film Minding the Gap. Upcoming Hulu Originals include Little Fires Everywhere from Reese Witherspoon and Kerry Washington; and The Dropout based on the ABC News investigative podcast and starring Kate McKinnon.

The four new FX original series exclusively for FX on Hulu are:

DEVS

Debuting in the spring of 2020, the limited series Devs, from Academy Award-nominated Alex Garland (Ex MachinaAnnihilation) and starring Sonoya Mizuno, Nick Offerman, Jin Ha and Allison Pill, was written and directed by Garland in his maiden voyage in television.  The series is a tech thriller that focuses on a young software engineer named Lily Chan (Mizuno) who works for Amaya, a cutting-edge tech company based in Silicon Valley. After her boyfriend’s apparent suicide, Lily suspects foul play and begins to investigate. She quickly realizes that all roads lead to Forest (Offerman), Amaya’s enigmatic CEO, and Devs, the company’s secret development division. In Lily’s quest to discover the truth, she uncovers a technology-based conspiracy that could change the world.  Alex Garland serves as executive producer along with Andrew Macdonald and Allon Reich of DNA TV, and Scott Rudin, Eli Bush and Garrett Basch of Scott Rudin Productions. Devs is produced by FX Productions.

MRS. AMERICA

Debuting in the spring of 2020, the limited series Mrs. America , from Academy Award-nominated producer Stacey Sher (Pulp Fiction), Emmy Award-winning writer Dahvi Waller (Mad Men) and Academy Award-winning actor Cate Blanchett, features an all-star cast including Cate Blanchett, Rose Byrne, Elizabeth Banks, Uzo Aduba, Margo Martindale, Sarah Paulson, John Slattery and Tracey Ullman.  Mrs. America tells the story of the movement to ratify the Equal Rights Amendment (ERA), and the unexpected backlash led by a conservative woman named Phyllis Schlafly (Blanchett). Through the eyes of the women of that era – both Schlafly and second wave feminists Gloria Steinem (Byrne), Betty Friedan (Ullman), Shirley Chisholm (Aduba), Bella Abzug (Martindale) and Jill Ruckelshaus (Banks) – the series explores how one of the toughest battlegrounds in the culture wars of the ‘70s helped give rise to the Moral Majority and forever shifted our political landscape.  Mrs. America is written by Emmy Award-winning writer Dahvi Waller (Mad Men) and Executive Produced by two-time Academy Award nominee Stacey Sher, Waller, Coco Francini, Anna Boden, Ryan Fleck and Blanchett, with Micah Schraft and James Skotchdopole serving as Co-Executive Producers. The limited series is produced by FX Productions.

A TEACHER

A Teacher is a limited series from writer/director Hannah Fidell, starring Kate Mara and Nick Robinson.Based on Fidell’s film of the same title, A Teacher explores an intimate connection between a female high school teacher and an underage male student that evolves into a high stakes, emotional affair, revealing the complexities and consequences behind these relationships, which are often relegated to clickbait headlines. Mara plays “Claire,” a popular young teacher at a suburban Texas high school, and Robinson is “Eric,” an all-American high school senior.  The limited series is written and directed by Fidell who will also serve as an executive producer along with Michael Costigan and Jason Bateman of Aggregate Films, and Danny Brocklehurst and Kate Mara. The 10-episode limited series is being produced by FX Productions.

THE OLD MAN

The Old Man is a drama starring Jeff Bridges as a retired CIA officer.  Based on the bestselling novel of the same name by Thomas Perry, The Old Man centers on “Dan Chase” (Jeff Bridges) who absconded from the CIA decades ago and has been living off the grid since.  When an assassin arrives and tries to take Chase out, the old operative learns that to ensure his future he now must reconcile his past.  Written by Jon Steinberg & Robert Levine, The Old Man is executive produced by Warren Littlefield, Steinberg, Dan Shotz, Robert Levine, Jeff Bridges and David Schiff. The series is produced by Fox  21 Television Studios in association with The Littlefield Company. Production of the pilot episode begins this fall.

Erik Anderson

Erik Anderson is the founder/owner and Editor-in-Chief of AwardsWatch and has always loved all things Oscar, having watched the Academy Awards since he was in single digits; making lists, rankings and predictions throughout the show.
