The 32nd annual International Documentary Association Awards was held last night and the ESPN doc O.J.: Made in America came out the winner of the Best Feature Award. The film is sweeping the critics’ awards this season, grabbing wins from Gotham, the National Board of Review and the New York Film Critics Circle. It is on the Oscar shortlist for Documentary Feature and already the favorite to win there if nominated. Ezra Edelman’s sprawling, nearly 8-hour doc has taken some heat for not being a true feature but a television event pushed to theaters. Last year’s winner, The Look of Silence, lost the Oscar to Amy.

Other top docs, such as I Am Not Your Negro, Cameraperson and Fire at Sea won in the tech categories. All are finalists for a Documentary Feature Oscar nomination.

The White Helmets, the story of Syria’s first responders which is on the shortlist for the Oscar, won the Best Short Award. The Emmy-winning Making a Murder won the Best Limited Series Award. Ava DuVernay’s 13TH won the ABC News VideoSource Award and previously announced honorees included director and producer Stanley Nelson (Career Achievement Award), IDFA founder Ally Derks (Pioneer Award), Lyn and Norman Lear (Amicus Award), and Hooligan Sparrow director Nanfu Wang (Emerging Documentary Filmmaker Award).
