Andre Braugher is no stranger to the Emmys.
Last month, the two-time winner and 11-time nominee scored his fourth nomination for playing Captain Raymond Holt on NBC’s Brooklyn Nine-Nine. The nod, Braugher’s first in four years, took the veteran actor by surprise. With an unprecedented Emmys ceremony on the horizon, Braugher isn’t taking the recognition or this specific time in history lightly.
In the wake of George Floyd’s murder, the cast and crew of “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” made a $100,000 donation to The National Bail Fund Network as a larger conversation about the place and prominence of television shows that depict law enforcement was brought to the forefront of many media discussions. In a conversation with Daniel Trainor and Sam Stone, Braugher spoke about how he’s confident “Nine-Nine” will meet the moment with levity and grace.
Braugher, who won Lead Actor in a Drama Series in 1996 for Homicide: Life On The Street and Lead Actor in a Limited Series or TV Movie in 2006 for Thief, also talked about what he’s learned from playing an openly gay character on network television for seven seasons, how he’s been quarantining with his family in New Jersey and why he won’t be wearing pajama pants for a virtual Emmys ceremony.
Andre Braugher is nominated for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series for Brooklyn Nine-Nine (episode “Ransom,”) which is available to stream on NBC platforms and On Demand.
