Interview: Billy Porter gets candid about his HIV revelation and the end of ‘Pose’ [VIDEO]

As Billy Porter was preparing to say goodbye to Pose and the character of Pray Tell, a role that earned him an Emmy and worldwide recognition, he had no idea that he was about to reveal more of himself than he ever had.

Last month, in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Porter explained that he was diagnosed with HIV in June of 2007 and had been living with it privately ever since. Now, as he shuts the door on a huge professional chapter, he has opened up his personal life in unprecedented ways.

Daniel Trainor and Sam Stone had a conversation with Porter about what led to his decision to go public, the progress that Pose helped usher in, all of the work that’s yet to be done and why he believes so deeply in the power of language.

The series finale of Pose airs on Sunday, June 6th at 10 pm ET and is available next-day on Hulu.
