Interview: Bridget Everett on interweaving grief and humor, those pillows, and getting Kansas right in season 2 of ‘Somebody Somewhere’ [VIDEO]

Airing after HBO’s now-wrapped megahits Succession and Barry on Sunday nights this past spring, Somebody Somewhere is something much subtler and more relaxed, a genuine and endearing story of two adult best friends living in Kansas. Bridget Everett is at the heart of it as star and executive producer, portraying Sam, who is still trying to figure out who she wants to be.

I had the chance to talk to Everett, who is very naturally funny and also a talented singer, just after the show was officially renewed for a third season, which she shared has already all been mapped out. She addressed the sad loss of star Mike Hagerty, the focus on Mary Jo and her deteriorating condition, the addition of Tim Bagley as a love interest for Joel (Jeff Hiller), and that very R-rated line of pillows in our nostalgic look at all that season two of this wonderful show has to offer.

Seasons one and two of Somebody Somewhere are streaming on Max. Everett is Emmy-eligible in the category of Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series.
