Interview: Chris Kelly and Sarah Schneider on the surprising depth of ‘The Other Two’ and chasing Alessia Cara [VIDEO]

The second season of The Other Two proves that, sometimes, the wait is worth it.

After a two-and-a-half year break in between the first and second season premieres, and with a shift from Comedy Central to HBO Max to boot, the acclaimed show returned better (and deeper) than ever.

The ensemble cast, led by Drew Tarver, Helene Yorke and Molly Shannon, explored topics of internalized homophobia, modern-day feminism and the destructiveness of social media, all with the wit and wisdom of a show that understands its audience better than any other.

Led by co-creators Chris Kelly and Sarah Schneider, The Other Two doesn’t hide from being specific, but instead strives to be a beacon of incisive, sometimes unabashedly niche humor, reveling in pop culture and queer references that help form the foundation of the show’s success.

Daniel Trainor spoke with Kelly and Schneider about leaning into cultural examinations in Season 2, daytime TV inspirations, Alessia Cara, The Real Housewives of Potomac and more.

Seasons 1 and 2 of The Other Two are available to stream on HBO Max.
