Interview: Colman Domingo talks ‘Zola,’ shooting in Florida and finding the ‘X’ factor [VIDEO]

In a given week, one might come across an article either talking about or focused on Colman Domingo about half a dozen times. Whether it’s about his work on Fear The Walking Dead, the latest guest on his Bottomless Brunch, hosting a pride celebration with Vice President Harris, his stunning red carpet appearances, his face care rituals, and of course his brilliant work in Zola, Domingo is the talk of Hollywood. Some might say he’s arrived but truthfully this graduate of Temple University has always been here, everyone’s just starting to get with the program.

In Zola, which is out now, Colman plays a mysterious figure named “X” who plays a key role in the most outrageous story of the year (to go any further would spoil the experience). Domingo’s performance in the film is unlike anything we’ve ever seen from him in a film and has captured the hearts of critics everywhere. We had a chance to speak with Colman about his role in Zola, what it was like to film in Tampa, and the extreme lengths he took to prepare for this role.

Zola is now playing only in theaters from A24.
