In some ways, it’s unfathomable that Search Party could ever end.
The critically-acclaimed comedy, which started on TBS before shifting to HBO Max after its second season, wraps up with a fifth and final season, premiering on January. The show’s core group of four – Dory (Alia Shawkat), Elliott (John Early), Portia (Meredith Hagner) and Drew (John Reynolds) – have seen it all during their wild ride together. Murder, betrayal, redemption, a twink channeling the aura of Susan Sarandon. You name it.
As things come to a close, Dory attempts to drag her friends into a world of cults, wellness culture and big tech, featuring guest stars like Kathy Griffin, John Waters and Jeff Goldblum. It’s all a fitting end for a show that has never been afraid of taking chances, or of doing things the easy way.
Daniel Trainor and Sam Stone talked to Hagner and Reynolds about saying goodbye to their characters, finding sanity in the show’s absurdity and the rewarding chaos of working with the aforementioned Goldblum.
All ten episodes of the final season of Search Party are now available to stream on HBO Max.
