Halle Berry’s career is experiencing a well-deserved renaissance. Bruised, the Oscar winner’s debut feature behind the camera, premiered at the 2021 AFI Film Festival. The film was a tremendous success for Netflix, which led to her signing a multi-year contract. Berry directs and stars in the film as the maligned MMC fighter Jackie Justice.

Bruised assisted the actress in demonstrating to the community that she is much more than a pretty face, but a capable actress who is not afraid to tackle serious issues.

The industry also appears to be catching on to the fact that, while her best actress win was historic, it was not a fluke. She recently received the Critics’ Choice Association’s Celebration of Black Cinema Award as well as the People’s Choice Icon Award. She’ll be the first to tell you that, while awards are nice, they don’t define a person’s success.

Berry is also one of many celebrities who understands how to use social media and interacts with her fan base in a positive way. As evidenced by the recent popularity of her 1997 film B.A.P.S. and her 2004 role as Catwoman. We recently had the opportunity to speak with the award-winning actress about Bruised and her career in general.

Bruised is currently streaming exclusively on Netflix.
