Interview: Spirit Award nominee Brian d’Arcy James on the unique perspective of ‘The Cathedral’ and acting for theater and film [VIDEO]
Brian d’Arcy James is a three-time Tony Award-nominated actor who has been regularly celebrated and rewarded for his theater work. His film and television appearances aren’t quite as frequent, but his quality of work is just as good. Now he’s up for his first solo film award, nominated for a Film Independent Spirit Award for his supporting performance in The Cathedral, which was also up for the Best Feature prize at the Gotham Awards.
We spoke with James about what intrigued him about director Ricky D’Ambrose’s work and getting to be part of a small but very creative film. He also reflected on getting to play Officer Crupke in Steven Spielberg’s West Side Story and how it is to work in film and television as compared with his regular home of Broadway.
The Cathedral is currently streaming on MUBI and available to rent or buy on VOD.
