Interview: Jon Cryer on Screwball Comedy, Family Dynamics, and Reconnecting with Multi-cam in NBC’s ‘Extended Family’ [VIDEO]
In 2012, Jon Cryer won his second Emmy for playing Alan Harper on one of the most popular sitcoms of the moment, Two and a Half Men. More than a decade later, he’s back on TV as part of another dysfunctional family, playing Jim, who still enjoys a cordial relationship with his ex-wife Julia (Abigail Spencer) and her new partner Trey (Donald Faison) as they share an apartment so that their kids won’t have to be disrupted, in NBC’s Extended Family.
We had the chance to speak with Cryer about his return to the world of laugh-track comedy and his working relationship with series creator Mike O’Malley and the rest of the cast. He also reflected on the legacy of Two and a Half Men, his time playing Lex Luthor in the DC TV Arrowverse, and how much his big breakout role in Pretty in Pink has defined his career.
The season finale of Extended Family premieres tonight at 8:30pm on NBC.
