Interview: Taron Egerton discusses his new prison drama ‘Black Bird’ and working with the late Ray Liotta [VIDEO]

As the television landscape has changed over the past decade, so has its inclusion of all kinds of actors and actresses. Movie stars have since flocked to the small screen for meaty roles that allow a longer time with their character. One such star is Taron Egerton, known for his film roles in the Kingsmen series, Eddie the Eagle and Rocketman. Egerton has made the move to the small screen for the AppleTV+ series Black Bird, based on the true story of Jimmy Keene who, after being arrested for various charges, is offered the chance of a lifetime to get out of jail by coaxing a confession out of another inmate in a different prison.

Egerton dives headfirst into the role, possibly his darkest yet, as Jimmy attempts to reel in the truth from Larry Hall (played by Paul Walter Hauser) about the murder of several women and where the bodies could be. All Jimmy has to do is get an exact location of a body, which isn’t easy considering the potential danger it could put him in. Egerton is excellent across the six episode limited series, bringing this real story to life.

I recently sat down with Egerton to discuss his role in the series, working with Paul Walter Hauser and the late Ray Liotta, and what else audiences can expect from him in the coming year.

The first two episodes of Black Bird hit AppleTV+ today, July 8, with new episodes every Friday through August 5.
