Interview: Tobias Menzies on portraying Prince Philip and his immense adoration for his co-stars in ‘The Crown’ [VIDEO]

Tobias Menzies has spent two seasons playing Prince Philip, husband to Queen Elizabeth (Olivia Colman) on Netflix’s acclaimed historical drama. Submitted last year as a lead actor, Menzies earned his first Emmy nomination this year in the supporting race as season four shifted focus to the next generation of royals.

We had the chance to speak with Menzies about the weight of this role, sharing it with two other actors, the late, real-life Prince Philip, and other observations from playing this and other characters. We also discussed his official Emmy episode submission and the season three installment he would urge Emmy voters to consider instead as a fantastic showcase of his work.

Tobias Menzies is nominated for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series has submitted the episode “Gold Stick” for Emmy consideration. The entire 4th season of The Crown is available to stream on Netflix.
