Interview: William Zabka is back as Johnny Lawrence in ‘Cobra Kai,’ and this time he’s Emmy-nominated [VIDEO]

How many Academy Award-nominated writers have followed that up by revisiting a role they originated 30 years later? The list is very exclusive: Sylvester Stallone for 1976’s Rocky. How many of them have followed that up with their first Emmy nomination? Enter William Zabka, who was Oscar-nominated for the 2003 Live Action Short Film Most. While returning to the role of Johnny Lawrence might have raised some eyebrows at the time, it has resulted in a career renaissance for this very talented artist. Cobra Kai has become wildly popular since coming to Netflix and fans can’t wait for season 4 which is set to drop at the end of the year.

While William Zabka and I might have some history together, getting to celebrate Cobra Kai’s nomination for Outstanding Comedy Series was a thrill to say the least. While some might marvel at the amount of depth Zabka has brought to Johnny in Cobra Kai, I was blown away by how much of vault he was. No matter how hard I tried to get to the bottom of what was going on in Season 4, I was shut down. He wouldn’t even confirm if he was in the season during the interview (I think it’s safe to say he is). It’s hard not to root for this cast and crew.

We were lucky enough to speak with Zabka once again about Cobra Kai and attempt to get some clarity about what’s to come in the new season.

William Zabka is nominated in Outstanding Comedy Series as a co-executive producer of Cobra Kai, which has submitted the episodes “Nature vs. Nurture,” “The Right Path,” “Miyagi-Do,” “King Cobra,” “Feel the Night,” “December 19” for Emmy consideration.
