Yesterday, Academy Award nominee Jake Gyllenhaal (Brokeback Mountain) teased us with to discover the mystery of his new film The Guilty by calling a phone number and hearing the first heart-stopping phone call between 911 operator and a cryptic woman named Emily. Whether by looking at the sky in LA and OC, or following clues on Instagram, fans could dive into the world of The Guilty.
The film takes place over the course of a single morning in a 911 dispatch call center. Call operator Joe Baylor (Gyllenhaal) tries to save a caller in grave danger—but he soon discovers that nothing is as it seems, and facing the truth is the only way out.
Antoine Fuqua (Training Day) directs from a script by Nic Pizzolatto (True Detective) and is an American remake of the 2018 Danish film of the same name co-written and directed by Gustav Möller. The film co-stars Ethan Hawke, Peter Sarsgaard, Riley Keough, Da’Vine Joy Randolph, Paul Dano, and Bill Burr.
Gyllenhaal produced the film under his Nine Stories Productions banner with Riva Marker plus Fuqua, Kat Samick, Scott Greenberg, Michel Litvak, Gary Michael Walters, David Litvak, Svetlana Metkina and David Haring.
The Guilty will world premiere at the 2021 Toronto International Film Festival before heading to select theaters on September 24 and Netflix on October 1.
