Jason Wald heads over to NEON as VP of Acquisitions and Production

Jason Wald has joined NEON as Vice President of Acquisitions and Production. Wald will report to Jeff Deutchman, EVP of Acquisitions and Production, and will help the team curate their slate as the company continues to ramp up production.

Wald previously served as the Director of Acquisitions at Searchlight Pictures, identifying and acquiring films for the label’s theatrical slate of both theatrical titles and Hulu Originals. Wald moved across from Hulu, where he served as Senior Content Acquisition Manager, spending over four years as part of the company’s inaugural film team. At Hulu, Wald oversaw the company’s Independent Film licensing partnerships and strategy and helped with the launch of Hulu Original Films, where he was involved in acquiring titles such as: Palm Springs, Boss Level, Bad Hair, False Positive, Big Time Adolescence, Little Monsters, the upcoming reboot of Hellraiser, and the Academy Award nominated The United States vs. Billie Holiday, as well as Hulu’s productions through their partnership with American High.

Prior to Hulu, Wald served as Manager, Acquisitions and Distribution at RADiUS-TWC after beginning his career at Cinetic Media in New York.

NEON recently released Julia Ducournau’s Palme d’Or winner Titane on October 1, with an upcoming slate that includes: Jonas Poher Rasmussen’s Flee; Pablo Larrain’s Spencer starring Kristen Stewart; and Celine Sciamma’s Petite Maman. The company recently acquired worldwide rights to Beba, the debut film by New York Afro-Latina artist Rebeca Huntt and The End, which will star Academy Award winner Tilda Swinton, George Mackay, and Stephen Graham, with production beginning in 2022.

In just four years, NEON has garnered 12 Academy Award nominations, 5 wins, including Best Picture with Bong Joon Ho’s Parasite, which made history winning four Academy Awards, becoming the first non-English-language film to claim Best Picture. The film, which also unanimously won the Palme d’Or at Cannes, grossed over $53M at the domestic box office and broke multiple records.

NEON has amassed a library of over 50 films with noteworthy releases including: Tamara Kotevska and Ljubo Stefanov’s award-winning and record-breaking Honeyland, which is the first non-fiction feature to land Academy Award nominations for Best Documentary and Best International Feature Film in the same year; Todd Douglas Miller’s Apollo 11 which grossed $16M worldwide; Julia Ducournau’s aforementioned Palme d’Or winner, Titane; and Craig Gillespie’s I, Tonya, which garnered multiple Academy Award nominations, one win for Allison Janney and amassed over $30M in domestic box office.
