Latino Entertainment Journalists (LEJA) nominations: ‘West Side Story’ leads with 13

The Latino Entertainment Journalists Association (LEJA) has announced its 4th annual nominations for the film in film and Latino representation in film and Steven Spielberg’s West Side Story leads the way with 13 nominations, including Best Picture, Director, two in Supporting Actor (David Alvarez and Mike Faist), two in Supporting Actress (Ariana DeBose and Rita Moreno), and Adapted Screenplay.

Right behind with 12 nominations is Jane Campion’s The Power of the Dog and Denis Villeneuve’s Dune, with 10.

Triple threat Lin-Manuel Miranda received the most individual nominations of any person with six: Best Director for his debut feature Tick, Tick … BOOM!, voice or motion capture performance for Vivo and a three song nominations all from the animated film Encanto: the Oscar-nominated “Dos Oruguitas,” plus “Surface Pressure” and the blockbuster #1 song in the country, “We Don’t Talk About Bruno.” Miranda is also the recipient of the Latino Activism Award. Past winners of that award include America Ferrera, Eva Longoria and Rosie Perez.

Emmy-winning actor, producer, and comedian John Leguizamo will be honored with the 2022 Rita Moreno Lifetime Achievement Award. The Latino Breakout Award is will be given to West Side Story star Rachel Zegler, who plays Maria, and won a Golden Globe for her performance. Previous winners include Yalitizia Aparicio (Roma).

Winners will be revealed via the LEJA social media channels on Sunday, March 6, beginning at 3:00 PM ET / 12:00 PM PT. Here is the full list of nominations.
