Oscar winner Matthew McConaughey (Dallas Buyers Club) stars in White Boy Rick, the true story of a deadbeat dad who brings up his son Rick (newcomer Richie Merritt) in the world of crime and crack in 1980s Detroit.

In just a few short years, Rick became a high level FBI informant and major player in the Detroit drug trade before being abandoned by his handlers and winding up in prison for life. The story has always been a bit of folklore and the film aims to provide some truth to the ‘what happened’ and what didn’t happen.’ There is also a documentary on the subject (called White Boy) that was just released and available via iTunes.

The film co-stars Oscar nominees Jennifer Jason Leigh (The Hateful Eight), Bruce Dern (Nebraska) and Piper Laurie (Children of a Lesser God, Carrie, The Hustler) plus Brian Tyree Henry, Rory Cochrane, RJ Cyler, Jonathan Majors, and Eddie Marsan. It’s directed by Yann Demange (’71) and produced by Darren Aronofsky (Black Swan, mother!) and written by Andy Weiss and Logan & Noah Miller.  It’s set for release September 21st from Sony Pictures.

Here are the first teaser and poster.
