Meryl Streep gets writer’s block in trailer for Steven Soderbergh’s ‘Let Them All Talk’

Today, HBO Max debuted the first trailer and poster for their new original feature film Let Them All Talk. Academy Award-winning filmmaker Steven Soderbergh (Traffic) directed the movie which stars three-time Academy Award winner Meryl Streep (Kramer vs. Kramer, Sophie’s Choice, The Iron Lady), Academy Award nominee and Emmy winner Candice Bergen (Starting Over and Murphy Brown, Academy Award nominee Lucas Hedges (Manchester by the Sea), Gemma Chan (Crazy Rich Asians) and two-time Academy Award winner Dianne Wiest (Hannah and Her Sisters, Bullets Over Broadway).

Let Them All Talk tells the story of a celebrated novelist (Streep) who embarks on the ocean liner Queen Mary II after receiving a literary award in the U.K. and is joined by some old friends (Bergen and Wiest) to have some fun and heal old wounds. Her nephew (Hedges) comes along to wrangle the ladies as well as her new literary agent (Chan) who is desperate to find out about her next book. 

This movie is part of a 3-year overall Soderbergh struck with HBO/HBO Max last year after dabbling with some Netflix projects, and its production was very off the cuff and unconventional. Filming lasted only a brief two weeks, with minimal equipment and crew. Actors improvised dialogue without an official script (Mike Leigh style), with only minimal outlines for scenarios drawn up by writer Deborah Eisenberg. Soderbergh also shot the film on the new RED Komodo Dragon camera, which was a prototype at the time but now expected to get wide use. Gregory Jacobs (The Laundromat, Magic Mike) produced.

Let Them All Talk begins streaming on HBO Max Thursday, December 10.
