MoviePass Inks Deal with Landmark Theaters
MoviePass, the premier movie theater subscription service, has teamed up with the country’s largest network of theaters dedicated to the distribution of independent film, Landmark Theaters.
MoviePass recently passed 2 million members in February and lowered its monthly subscription rate to $6.95 (when you pay a year upfront) in an era where streaming behemoth Netflix is raising their monthly rate. That $6.95 allows you to see one movie per day (less than the cost of most bargain matinees). Landmark Theatres operates 255 screens across 53 theaters across 27 markets nationwide. This new relationship will merge MoviePass with Landmark’s ticketing system, allowing members to take advantage of the benefits offered by Landmark including e-ticketing, advanced screening reservations, and in-app seat selection.
“We are excited to offer MoviePass customers access to our Landmark Theatres,” said Mark Cuban, co-owner of Landmark. “There is no better place to watch a movie than Landmark and now MoviePass customers will be able to enjoy all of our theaters.”
“Our relationship with Landmark represents another milestone achievement in our journey to enhancing the current movie theater ecosystem,” said Bernadette McCabe, Senior Vice President of Exhibitor Relations & Business Strategy at MoviePass. “It’s another step towards educating exhibitors on how we can work together in a mutually beneficial way to create a valuable and cost-effective experience for moviegoers.”
MoviePass recently revealed some of its best-selling movies on their app. Black Panther was #1 with over 1 million tickets sold. Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle came in at 750K and in the over-500K group came Game Night, The Greatest Showman and Star Wars: The Last Jedi.
