‘Mulan,’ ‘Tenet,’ ‘The Queen’s Gambit’ lead Art Directors Guild (ADG) nominations

The 25th Art Directors Guild nominations were announced on Thursday for outstanding production design in film and television.

Mank, Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom and Mulan were among the nominated films in the Period Feature Film category, while Birds of Prey, Pinocchio and Wonder Woman 1984 were nominated in Fantasy Feature Film. The Contemporary Film category found room for Da 5 Bloods, I’m Thinking of Ending Things and Promising Young Woman.

Curiously missing from the list today were period pieces like Emma. and The Personal History of David Copperfield.

In television, The Queen’s Gambit, The Mandalorian and The Crown were among the nominees, along with comedies Dead to Me, Will & Grace and What We Do in the Shadows.

As previously announced, writer-director-producer Ryan Murphy will receive the Cinematic Imagery Award.

Winners will be announced in a virtual ceremony to be held April 10. Here is the full list of ADG nominations for film and television.
